Why Antifatigue Matting?
Studies have shown that fatigue in the work-place has a direct correlation to decreased productivity and increased accidents. This is particularly true when the work context involves standing for long periods of time. There are two ways standing in the same position for long periods of time can cause pain and fatigue. Firstly, there is poor blood supply to and from the muscles, which leads to cramp like feelings. Secondly, the blood does not easily return to the heart, resulting in pain in the legs and feet from the increased pressure of blood pooling there. Antifatigue Matting combats work-place fatigue in two ways. Antifatigue Mats reduce fatigue by creating a slightly unstable standing surface. This requires the postural muscles to make frequent, small contractions to maintain the person’s balance. These contractions make sure that the muscles receive a good supply of blood and help return the blood to the heart. Also, Antifatigue Mats serve as an impact buffer between the worker and hard flooring surfaces. They reduce jarring to ankles, knees, and back joints, and in doing so reduce both fatigue and worker injuries.
